 Description

test setup :

  • template "a" with an item with key "test"
  • template "b" with no items (or different items from template "a")
  • template "c" with an item with key "test"
  • host "host", linked to template "c"
  • discovery rule that discovers host "host"
  • discovery action that links discovered host to templates "a" and "b"

result :
linking fails, as zabbix finds the conflicting "test" item between templates "a" and "c"

expected :
zabbix would still complain about the conflicting item, but would link template "b", as it does not conflict

the current behaviour is not very intuitive.
in the case it is decided to keep it as is, it should be documented in https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/3.0/manual/discovery/network_discovery

Added to the network discovery section for 3.0 and other supported versions.

Linking a discovered host to templates will fail collectively if any of the linkable templates has a unique entity (e.g. item key) that is the same as a unique entity (e.g. item key) already existing on the host.

This is not entirely correct. Also templates may conflict with each other.

Right, thanks. The wording has been updated accordingly.
