it seems weird that this issue has jumped to "in documenting" without any comments on it being actually fixed, no subissues...
is there some jira bug here ?

palivoda: check Transitions tab.

<richlv> thank you for the response. the transitions are surprisingly silent - for example, compared to ZBXNEXT-210 , there are no changed string checks, no code review, no testing, no information on the direction taken, even.
has zabbix stopped doing all those things ?

Miks.Kronkalns There are multiple comments but they all are restricted to developers in this issue.

<richlv> very interesting. so it looks like now all the useful comments are secret as well, right ?
is it an indication of zabbix becoming increasingly more closed ?

vso no, just a mistake.

There are big improvements in maps in 3.4 that I find very helpful, but the lack of this feature kind of diminishes all the improvements. I hope it will be resolved and not only by changing the documentation.

Comment by Raymond Kuiper [ 2017 Sep 19 ]

Can we please get some confirmation this functionality will return to Zabbix?
I fear the current silence about the issue from dev side seems to imply it will be fixed by removing the option from the documentation.

Comment by Martins Valkovskis [ 2017 Sep 19 ]

This option actually has been put back rather than removed completely. I can point you to: What's new for 3.4.2.

Comment by Raymond Kuiper [ 2017 Sep 19 ]

Thank you for the confirmation!

Comment by Marc [ 2017 Sep 19 ]

martins-v,
Put back? Why, what was the reasoning behind? Did the changes made for network maps broke it? Or what was the reason?

Comment by Martins Valkovskis [ 2017 Sep 19 ]

okkuv9xh,
Perhaps someone from the Zabbix developers could comment on it. I can only describe the finished article as I'm not familiar with the background details.

Comment by richlv [ 2017 Sep 20 ]

martins-v, if it was a bug, wouldn't description of it be a better for for known issues, not "whatsnew" pages ?

Comment by Martins Valkovskis [ 2017 Sep 21 ]

There are more changes to macro expansion than just simply returning the button/option, which are now being added to documentation, that's why 'What's new'. Still, I agree that the absence of this option should be added to the known issues.

A related bug report: ZBX-12771

Comment by Kirill H [ 2017 Sep 26 ]

This is not completely solved, still in 3.4.2 it doesn't show anything if macro was used in map properties.

Comment by richlv [ 2017 Sep 26 ]

a new bugreport would be needed, as the work in this issue got merged for 3.4.2, which is out already

Done! Created ZBX-12790 - see ZBX-12784
