 Description

After set log level up to level 4.,In log report can't find key text "VMware Rollup Health State" from vmware_service_get_hv_data() SOAP response.
My ESXI version is 6.5.
Question:Is these item key (vmware.hv.sensor.health.state[]) still supported on VMware Hypervisor v6.5?

As found out digging deeper:

This is by design in vSphere 6.0. The vSphere Client 6.0 no longer supports the hardware status plug-in.

Details here:
KB2111416
However there is a workaround/way to enable that functionality.
See this article:
VMWare ESXi 6.5 CIM Data Disabled by Default

And that Sensor is not in the list any more. So looks like vmware has removed it.

Can someone test it on their own environments?

I am also seeing the same issue, ESXi 5.5, 6.0 work with the simple check vmware.hv.sensor.health.state, however it is unsupported in 6.5.
Is there a plan to deprecate/update this check?

I'm having the same issue with Zabbix server 3.2.6 and ESXi 6.5.
All other vmware SDK items are fine, only 'vmware.hv.sensor.health.state' that can't find a value.

I have found the same issue on vCenter 6.5, i would like to know the Zabbix official position about this case.

Thanks

I am seeing a similar problem with Zabbix 4.0 and Vcenter 6.5U3.

Vcenter is able to read the hardware sensors and I can view the sensors via the MOB browser, but Zabbix reports "value not available" for vmware.hv.sensor.health.state.

Hello/

Same think on Zabbix serveur 4.2.8 and Vmware 6.7.0.

Can someone fix this please? Server 4.4.1, VMware 6.5 and 6.7

Comment by Margus [ 2019 Dec 18 ]

same problem here with server 4.4.1 and vmware 6.7

Comment by metal [ 2020 Feb 03 ]

same problem here zabbix 4.4.5, vcenter 6.7

can someone help with how to check if this value is available in vcenter 6.7

Comment by Marco Hofmann [ 2021 Aug 23 ]

Having the same problem here. I just switched a vCenter (for testing purposes) to the latest version of the official VMware template (https://git.zabbix.com/projects/ZBX/repos/zabbix/browse/templates/app/vmware) where this item is still part of the latest template version.

I tested two vCenter versions 6.5 and 6.7 and for both versions the item fails.

A statement regarding this  4 year old confirmed bug report would be nice. Or a note in the docs, that it only works vCenter <6.5 or similar.

Description

The problem with the vmware.hv.sensor.health.state is related to the disappearance of "VMware Rollup Health State" vmware sensor possible since approximately v6.5. We have not been able to find any public information about this, except for a note about "Health status monitoring" from "Table 5-3. Deprecated vSphere Alarms (continued)" of vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-703-monitoring-performance-guide.pdf, possibly related to this sensor.

Decision

Therefore, it was decided to change the template and create the vmware.hv.sensor.health.state item through LLD, based on the information from vmware.hv.sensors.get

sasha & MVekslers According to Zabbix policy, Zabbix 5.4 has Full support for another 10 days: https://www.zabbix.com/life_cycle_and_release_policy

  • Full Support services include fixing of general, critical and security issues.
Why did you remove 5.4.x from fixed versions?
Comment by Alexander Vladishev [ 2022 Feb 18 ]

starko, we thought we would not have time to do this before the next release. I returned this version back. Thanks!
