 Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create packer loss widget
  2. item ICMP loss
  3. Aggregate function avg()

Result:
The result is not a useful widget and the reason for that is that if packet loss is at 100% a device is down. But i already have events for hosts that are down. The widget is only useful if i see an actual packet loss on devices. When i have 100 down devices the widget is not useful at all as it is filled with down devices.
Expected:
I would expect to be able to somewhere set a threshold for this and say list any device that has packet loss up to some percentage like 90% or 95% which is not entirely down and unreachable but is in fact experiencing heavy packet loss.

Hi.
Could you please clarify on what Widget you're using?
There's no "Packer loss widget"
A for the threshold, it can be set on the trigger, but this doesn't seems like a bug at all

Best regards,
Victor

Hi

i am using packet loss widget.  I am using it setup as TopN, Aggregation function is set to Avg. Aggregation interval is set to 15min.

Like i said the the issue is that the widget displays down devices with 100% packet loss instead of displaying up to some threshold that i could set. At 100% packet loss it's not packet loss anymore it's down completely. We have a very big setup and i can have on average 150 devices down at any one time which makes the widget useless, but when most devices are up than it works great.

The main thing here, is there a way to exclude any device with 100% packet loss from the widget? If not than i see it as a bug since 100% packet loss is effectively device that is down and there are already events and triggers for down devices so there is no need to show them in packet loss widget at the same time.

Hi Ognjen.
Really sorry for the late response, and thank you for your explanation.

The ICMP loss item that you are using as the metric to order the column will appear as 100% when the device is Down, so that's the expected behavior for that item and widget.
In this case, instead of using the Top Widget, you could use a Problem widget with filters only for such problems, and create triggers that will fire according to how many packets are lost, like 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%.

If you feel like it, you can open a Change request ticket and give suggestions for what you expect to achieve.
This case at hand can not be classified as a bug per se.

With that said, we are closing this ticket.
Thank you for understanding.
