is duplicated by ZBXNEXT-9090 Reload SNMP cache when SNMPv3 credent... Ready for QA

 Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a host using SNMPv3 authPriv and verify that connection to host, SNMP is "Green" and can get values using test on an item or latest data shows data.
  2. In Zabbix and on the host change the SNMPv3 authentication protocol and/or privacy protocol. For example change from MD5 to SHA256 and/or DES to AES128.
  3. Observe that in Zabbix on the host SNMP turns "Red" and using the item test does not work.
  4. Restarting the server service or if going through a proxy restarting the proxy service will fix the issue and SNMP will turn green and the item test will start working.

Result:

  1. Observe that in Zabbix on the host SNMP turns "Red" and using the item test does not work.
  2. Tried the following without success, restarting host, waiting over 24 hours, issuing "sudo zabbix_proxy -R config_cache_reload" on the proxy, disable/re-enable host.

Expected:
That when changing the SNMPv3 parameters that the changes will work without restarting the server service or proxy service.

Could you please check if snmp_cache_reload runtime command help ?

Comment by Rob Quinn [ 2024 Apr 18 ]

Yes the snmp_cache_reload runtime command fixes the issue. I verified both scenarios, when host is directly connect to the server and if it is going through a proxy.

Closing this ticket as "snmp_cache_reload" runtime command resolves the issue without the need of restarting Zabbix Server or Proxy service.

It seems that there should be maybe an audit or something to update these settings automatically. I waited over 24 hours without this issue being fixed automatically. I do not think the user should have to issue a console command to have a GUI update take effect.

[email protected] I agree with you, however there is already ZBXNEXT-9090 registered as a feature request which covers that. Please have a look and vote for the feature to be considered in one of future releases - I have also put my vote there. Closing as duplicate.
