Following error message (in /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log) does not contain necessary information (hostname that failed to resolve, and preferably, the full URL passed to curl:

Error doing curl_easy_perform [couldn't resolve host name]

other errors like that is :
Error doing curl_easy_perform [Timeout was reached]
Error doing curl_easy_perform [Couldn't connect to server]

Also getting errors like:
Error doing curl_easy_perform [Failure when receiving data from the peer]

Some more info would be helpful.

Better debugging output available in pre-1.8.4 in r16325.
