Red Hat 6.1, Zabbix from EPEL

 Description

The server log file grows at an awful rate, if you start the server and the agent without applying the SQL dumps.

Although it is basically a user's fault, it's a nasty behaviour.

  • Install Postgresql- and Zabbix server
  • Initialize PG cluster, create database and user, set a working authentication mechanism
  • Start the Zabbix server without dumping in the SQL
  • See the Zabbix server log grow by around 1 kB/s.

Log level is 3 ("warnings"). With this rate of growth you'd expect around 86 MB per day.

  • Start the Zabbix agent
  • See the Zabbix server log grow by 8 MB/s.

This rate of growth yields around 691 GB per day. Sudden death for my /var filesystem!

See ZBX-2851 for how it was fixed for frontend.

Reproducible in 1.8.8, but not reproducible in the latest pre-1.8.9. Was apparently fixed together with ZBX-4158.
