Also it would be great to have plugins supported for LLD (shared libs?), so that the LLD functionality could be extended by third parties.

note that this is different from ZBXNEXT-1799 - while that issue allowed to use lld macros/variables in ipmi sensor names, there's still no ipmi discovery item available

Since it is already implemented it would be great to hear your feedback. Feel free to grab alphas and betas of Zabbix 5.0 when available and report back if it works for you as expected.
