Description |
Define "generic" graphs not attached to hosts. Graph items from different hosts (currently, when defining a graph with items from different hosts, the graph is saved to on the host of the first item in the graph), attach/save graph on different host that any of the hosts of the items graphed (i.e. define a virtual host, not monitored then define graphs attached to this virtual host that draw items from other hosts). Another way to do this is to link items: define virtual host, not monitored, define items attached to this host that point to items from different hosts, the graph the virtual host items. Use case: Application providing a service, deployed distributed on several hosts. All instances of the application have same statistics but is very time consuming and difficult to graph all instances in the same graph, overlaid (to spot differences in service request distribution over all application instances) or summed automatically (to have an overview of the total service requests handled together by all application instances). |

Note that first paragraph is not a truth since So maybe we should close it as duplicate of the |

It's not quite the same. What I'm trying to say is to provide a way to attach graphs to other things than hosts (like host group, applications) and not to save the graph in the host definition. Basically, I suggest developping further the application concept (to be more than just a grouping label), expanding host group concept with the abillity to attach items and application to the group (not propagated to the containing hosts) and a lot of other ideas that need to be put in place (macro extension to provide dynamic value - running scripts as values, referrence to other items, calculated values). But it's a lot for a single feature. I think you can close this but maybe note down some of the suggestions. I like Zabbix and I want to see it developed further. Thank you. |

note that graphs aren't really attached to hosts - it's just that in the frontend they show up for the hosts from which the graph includes items. could you please clarify with some usecase a simple example of what could be improved regarding graphs/hosts ? |

I monitor applications spread over several hosts and clustered applications. It would be useful to group graphs of items per application and not per host where different modules of the application resides. |

ok, so we could say that this is about filtering or sorting/displaying graphs based on applications that the included items are part of, right ? everything else is too vague for a feature request at this time |

That is correct. Thank you. |
