(1) The current design is as follows:
It is unclear which picture means selected and which means not selected. Some people think that the white fill makes the star full, and other people think that a small star inside makes the bigger star full. PavelA RESOLVED in r61395 asaveljevs Perfect! CLOSED.

I'm wondering right now, whether an indicator similar to the dashboard filter would be more appropriate - in general.

or just borrow the design of that from medawiki (you can see it in wikipedia) ? i'd guess they have conducted some user surveys to come up with that.

"bookmarks -> bookmark this page" ?

In a browser, they indicate fullness with a special color that is different from anything around. Below is a Firefox example:
In our current stars above, both white and blue appear around the star.

Sure, it's a standard. I see no reason for all the fuss around the poor little star...

i believe that the point asaveljevs was making was that everywhere the colour of the star is different from the surrounding colour. actually, looking at the original images, i do not know which one was supposed to be enabled (not checking the branch), and which one was supposed to be disabled, so apparently a very valid issue was identified.

This problem is solved, there will be a different color.
