 Description

I have Zabbix Server and 3000 hosts on which I want to control the current firmware version.

How it is done now: I create an item (type HTTP agent) in the template, which receives the current firmware number from the supplier’s server. There is a trigger that will check the version on my host and the version from the provider. If they differ, an alert is issued.

*What is the problem: *Now Zabbix Server creates 3,000 HTTP requests to the provider server. This can be regarded as an attack.

Suggestion: To make it possible to create dependent Items in templates from other Hosts (not templates).

What will help to solve:

  • To avoid 3000 HTTP requests, there will be 1 request.
  • Reduce junk data

If the master item is removed from the host, the dependent will become unsupport, and this functionality already exists.

I understand that in this case master item will receive firmware version for all 3000 of hosts from some HTTP data source, correct?

Yes, correct. The goal is to reduce the number of "external" requests.

is there any solution?

The issue is still open so I am afraid there is no solution yet. Thanks for your earlier feedback anyway.
