(9) new flexible interval, new host group & probably all other "new" entries have grey background, not slightly green

<pavels> The green line doesn't look too good on a gray background. I think a darker shade of gray is better.

<richlv> darker shade of grey is a bit confusing, though - it can be mixed up with the alternating row highlighting. maybe some other shade of green-grey-ish then ?

<pavels> We don't have alternating row highlighting in forms any more, and green completely doesn't suite this color palette.

Comment by richlv [ 2012 May 19 ]

(10) enabled checkbox background is grey - that is mighty confusing (opera 11.64). that's not the case in 1.8

Fixed in trunk r27827 and 2.0 r27828.

CLOSED.

(12) fix for (11) was only partial - it fixed green cells, but not the red ones
that's issue ZBX-5385

also, the revisions seem to be switched in the previous comment - it should be 2.0 r27827 and trunk r27828

Comment by Oleksii Zagorskyi [ 2012 May 15 ]

Dev branch tested.
Current implementation doesn't take into account a very nice implementation of an improvement for similar case in the ZBX-3219
Btw, (1) in that ZBX-3219 is not resolved

I think current message "Zabbix server is not running!" is not enough / is not correct. The same as we discussed it for ZBX-3219 and we've finished with detailed description instead of using a term that "server is not running"

I'd suggest somehow combine solution in the ZBX-3219 with the goal in this feature.
For example change message to "Zabbix server probably is not running! See more details on dashboard."
And in the dashboard implement (1) from ZBX-3219.

<Vedmak> but server status widget is shown only for super admins, all other users won't find anything in dashboard.

<zalex> it's not described in the Spec page , I mean "is shown only for super admins"
When zabbix just installed, a first logged-in user (note - novice) is Super-admin and he can see that message.
But even for experienced Super-admins that message can be confused.

<Vedmak> mm, i think you got me wrong. I mean that dashboard widget, where you want popup with description to be added, is shown only for super admins. So "See more details on dashboard." for non super admins users will be misleading.

<zalex> OMG, sorry, I got it.
hmm, ok, for super admins we could show separate note with additional text ".. see dashboard for details."

But main my idea is - we have great functionality for GUI scripts - detailed description with possible reasons of unavailable zabbix server trapper port, but this functionality is not implemented somehow in the any other places in GUI.
So I'd suggest to add it on the dashboard, maybe as tool-tip to the word "No" <- Zabbix server is running
It would help for any superadmins.

(1) for the checkbox label, i'd suggest something like "Check Zabbix server availability every [ ] seconds" (have maartinjsh look at it as well )

(3) The error should overlay the header, not be inserted in the beginning. Now the whole page is trembling horribly because of it.

I suggest display the error as a floating on top notification, centered, so it wouldn't cover the menu and logo.

<Vedmak> Overlay wont work because on small screens it will cover menu anyway. Maybe it can be shown near logotype.

Please improve according to the updated specification.

(1) Let's make the error pop up more narrow, so it doesn't overlay the menu to the right. I also see some white dashes on the left round border of the pop up in firefox. I'm not sure where it comes from, maybe it's a firefox rendering bug.

<pavels> Also set the max with for it. It's not pretty when it stretches too much.

<Vedmak> RESOLVED, not sure about Firefox rendering..

<pavels> The rendering issue is gone. CLOSED.

(2) The "server_check_inteval' now stores a boolean indicator, whether the server check is enabled or not. I suggest we store the interval itself, i.e., 10 if the check is enabled, and 0 otherwise.

 Description

I suggest to add to Dashboard page of all non-super-admin users a clear, simple indication, whether the Zabbix server is running or not. See the attached screenshot for an example design, where the status description, server hostname and queue lenght is displayed. If the server is not running, the respective table field blinks to attract attention of the user.

The motivation for my suggestion is the fact, that the Zabbix Supper Admin does not eye the Zabbix GUI all the time whilst the 24x7 operators do. There is however no indication for them that the Zabbix server is not running, i.e. they do not know that the monitoring does not work if the Zabbix frontend is still available.

In addition, I suggest to add an option to sort the "Latest issues" in Dashboard by severity first and by time second. It is important to have the description of most severe issues displayed on the big monitor on the wall at the Service Center room ....
