Oracle documentation advises to set OCI_ATTR_CHARSET_FORM to SQLCS_NCHAR when defining and binding nchar, nvarchar2 and nclob fields. Otherwise data will be converted from national character set into client character set through database character set which is unnecessary overhead and can be potentially lossy if database character set is not Unicode.
