go to monitoring -> triggers with events hidden, mark some triggers, show events.
notice how selection still applies to invisible objects and can;t be changed for them.
mark some events, switch back to not showing events - this selection change is also preserved, and is not visible in this mode.

event and trigger selection should only count when in the corresponding mode
