Unless I misunderstand, it looks like the protocol header documentation still says the max packet size is 128MB:
To not exhaust memory (potentially) Zabbix protocol is limited to accept only 128MB in one connection.
Though the limit was increased to 1GB in 4.2.7
Limit per connection has been increased from 128MB to 1GB packet size (ZBX_MAX_RECV_DATA_SIZE constant).
