Macros in web scenarios - documentation updates

XMLWordPrintable

    • Sprint 98 (Mar 2023)
    • 0.5

First issue: we currently have two pages in the documentation with conflicting information regarding support for user macros in web scenarios. They are

      https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/6.0/en/manual/appendix/macros/supported_by_location_user

      and

      https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/6.0/en/manual/web_monitoring

Regarding WEB SCENARIOS, the first page states that user macros CAN be used in a web scenario "name" but CAN'T be used in "interval".  The second one does not mention that possibility for 'name' (and therefore implicitly states the contrary, since it explicitly states fields where user macros ARE allowed) and explicitly mentions that user macros ARE supported in 'interval'.

Regarding WEB SCENARIOS STEPS, the first page states that user macros CAN be used in web scenarios steps 'name', but CAN'T be used in 'timeout' and 'required status codes'. The second page states (implictly, as above) that they CAN'T be used in steps and explictly says it CAN be used in 'timeout' and 'required status codes'.

Second issue: in the page about system macros support (https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/6.0/en/manual/appendix/macros/supported_by_location#footnotes) we state this:

4 {HOST.*} macros are supported in web scenario Variables, Headers, SSL certificate file and SSL key file fields and in scenario step URL, Post, Headers and Required string fields. Since Zabbix 5.4.0, {HOST.*} macros are no longer supported in web scenario Name and web scenario step Name fields.

However, we do not clearly state this regression in Zabbix 5.4.0 release notes  (https://www.zabbix.com/rn/rn5.4.0) or upgrade notes (https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/5.4/en/manual/installation/upgrade_notes_540).

Can we fix that, please? A related ticket is https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-19282 (that's where the changes in the documentation regarding system macros were implemented).

      Eduardo
