Create group for host and for template with same name (or upgrade from previous version when templates and hosts where in the same group)
Create calculated item with condition by same group, like:

sum(last_foreach(/*/item.key?[group="GROUP_NAME"]))

You will get "Cannot evaluate expression: no input data for function at ..."
But data is in place, just zabbix is searching by template group with same name
