Oracle DBA raised an interesting concern regarding use of native Oracle monitoring templates {1,2}:
I have not looked at all different queries or metrics that it [Zabbix Oracle Template] runs and collects. But I have many times done audit of plenty of customers where someone has run some queries against a database for which they do not have license and oracle keeps track of such executions.
I am not against any monitoring tool, all I am saying is that we need to be careful. Oracle is very nasty when it comes to licensing. Oracle’s own monitoring system such as OEM requires purchase of management packs which comes at additional costs.
Best way is to ask guys at Zabbix if they can guarantee that it doesn’t run or collect anything that will cause any issues with Oracle audits? This way if there is any issue you can use that email as evidence.
So if I understood that correctly, Oracle ransomware might require a more expensive enterprise license to run certain queries that Zabbix template may or may not use.
Since customer is concerned about potential charges for Oracle license due to use of Zabbix monitoring template for Oracle, are there any assurances Zabbix team could provide regarding minimum viable Oracle licensing level required for use of Oracle monitoring templates? (Perhaps that is worth documenting in templates' README.)
Thanks.
