Change Red Hat Linux family tree repository installation instructions to yum commands

XMLWordPrintable

    • Type: Documentation task
    • Resolution: Unresolved
    • Priority: Trivial
    • None
    • Affects Version/s: 6.0.42, 6.0.43, 7.0.21, 7.0.22, 7.4.5, 7.4.6, 8.0.0alpha1
    • None
    • Environment:
All Linux OSes that are in the Red Hat family tree especially RHEL 7 derivatives.
      E.g Red Hat 7, CentOS 7

      Steps to reproduce:

      1. Drive down to the installation procedures for the OS and particular packages you want to run.  e.g.  https://www.zabbix.com/download -> 7.0 LTS -> Red Hat Enterprise Linux ->  7 -> Agent 2
      2. perform  Instructions step 2. a.
        e.g. rpm -Uvh https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/7.0/rhel/7/x86_64/zabbix-release-latest-7.0.el7.noarch.rpm
      3. run any yum command. e.g yum check-update

      Result:
You get an error message of "Warning: RPMDB altered outside of yum."

      Expected:
That when I run yum commands, I do not get that warning.

      How to resolve.
In the installation documents change any instance of "rpm -Uvh https://repo.zabbix.com/...." to "yum install https://repo.zabbix.com/...."

      Rational:
If followed as written the current installation steps create extra steps for the Systems administrators to clean up this error messages and depending on which logic is followed to clean that up they may blow out there yum history, and no longer have that as a reference for changes to the system.
