active zabbix proxy configuration data exchange gets logged in proxy and server log file with messages "Sending configuration data to proxy. Datalen n" and "Received configuration data from server. Datalen n".
for passive proxies there seems to be no such messages, which makes problem investigation notably harder.

for active proxies this was fixed in issue ZBX-524
