2025-11-04 the SLES 16 has been released (link).
It is the next major release that will be supported the next decade (up to November 2035 as general support, plus additional 3 years for payed LTSS).
Among other changes, the configuration file split between /etc and /usr directories was performed (link).
The main idea is: to move distribution-provided configuration files into /usr/etc directory (that can be mounted as read-only), but leaving the /etc directory only for the files customized by a local administrator. A more detailed description is here.
It could be great:
- to have packages (Zabbix server/proxy/agent/agent 2) officially supported on the SLES 16 platform, too;
- to implement this configuration file split (so called "UsrEtc") for all these daemons.
