Macros are a very powerful functionality in Zabbix. However, manually writing them within the UI fields is a tricky and error-prone task. Currently, the user need to know which macros are supported in each UI field and to look for them into the documentation.

A way to choose the desired macro from a list would hugely improve usability and assure better configuration results, without the need of a frustrating trial-and-error process.

For example, a contextual menu could be provided for each UI field with ability to insert: 

• Built-in macros, supported in the specific location
• User macros, defined on the current template or host
• Expression macros, a wizard to interactively build a correct expression (very similar to the Add function in trigger expression)
