With 1.8, several configuration paramerters have some effect on shmmax setintgs. sysctl tuning isn't somethi8ng i do often and usually with some guidance. For both server and proxy under 1.8.2, i've had to make adjustments in order to make the component run, either in server.conf or sysctl. However, there is no guidance in the documentation to assist in understanding how configuration options impact on system resources and performance and how to tune them optimally.
