When a variable is defined like {VARIABLE}=VALUE in Scenario "Variables" field or in Step of scenario "Variables" field, it cannot be used in "Required string" field since it's not getting expanded (the result body is checked for a '{VARIABLE}' string instead of a 'VALUE' string).
User macros do work in the Required string" field.
