Javascript preprocessing added a lot of flexibility to the preprocessing rules. Of course this raises the question - would it be possible to implement preprocessing steps based on other languages, such as Perl?
This makes a lot of sense if your team members are already proficient in Perl and do not wish to rewrite everything in JS, so they will end up sticking to external scripts for preprocessing, which is not optimal.
