Maintenance Schedules
In a larger business, with almost 1000 hosts added into monitoring; with triggers firing all day, it's useful to encompass a proper maintenance schedule (that we typically agree with each customer up-front); allowing things like patching to be performed during the maintenance interval.
Our monitoring solution triggering alarms, during the maintenance interval, makes for a very noisy experience. I would like to eliminate that.
Request:
- Ability to have a LIST of maintenance intervals.
- Hosts can be added to one or more maintenance intervals
- Intervals can have fixed-date/time+duration
- Intervals can have recurring intervals (hourly, daily, weekly on x day, monthly on y date) for a fixed duration
Example:
Customer 1 might have a contractual maintenance schedule of Every thursday evening from 9pm until midnight. They have 49vms, that regularly need patches (os and application). Giving us the freedom to apply those patches (we follow CAB processes, seeking authorisation, discussing risks etc). During the scheduled interval, we perform the work.
- Without this feature, Zabbix triggers PROBLEM records; and the Trigger Actions will log 'ITIL Incident' tickets in our ticketing system, with them automatically resolving over a short duration of time (2-5 minutes, usually).
- WITH this feature, Zabbix triggers PROBLEM records; and the Trigger Actions WILL NOT log ITIL incidents in our ticketing sytem.
Perhaps consider adding a Trigger Action policy, that can 'bypass maintenance intervals'.. for those with the specific requirement of always being notified.
