 Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upgrade 7.0.17 server to 7.4.1

Result:
7.0.17 proxies reported as outdated

Expected:
Proxy fully supported per https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/7.4/en/manual/installation/upgrade (Zabbix server fully supports proxies that are of the same major version as the server). 7.4 and 7.0 are same major version so either documenation or frontend messages are wrong.

Logs confirm proxy config updates are disabled

configuration update is disabled for this version of proxy "zbx7prxLan1.nku.cz" at "192.168.12.11": proxy and server major versions do not match

I must be reading something wrong. Or why major version of 7.0.17 does not match major version of 7.4.1?

I also do not understand https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/7.4/en/manual/appendix/compatibility#supported-zabbix-proxies
It says 6.4 server proxies 6.0 and 6.2 work as outdated but for 7.4 server it allows only 7.0 proxies as outdated. Why is 7.2 not listed?

Last weird thing is this Problem alert:

Zabbix server: Proxy group [proxytest-group]: Status "offline"

. I understand outdated proxies cannot work as HA but calling the proxy group "offline" (i.e. broken) seems wrong. Is proxy groups/HA vs outdated proxies documented? Upgrade procedure says nothing about proxy groups.

I see this should go on forum and not here because it is me getting it wrong, right?

Zabbix proxy 7.2 is not considered as outdated for Zabbix server 7.4, but you have 7.0.

So 7.4 is same major version as 7.2, but different major version than 7.0? Sound like "current", "outdated" and "major version" are not good words for documenting this.

Shouldn't Upgrade procedure at least say that 7.2 proxies are fully supported like this?

Server version Current proxy version Outdated proxy version Unsupported proxy version
7.2 7.2 7.0 Older than 7.0; newer than 7.2
7.4 7.2, 7.4 7.0 Older than 7.0; newer than 7.4

I think https://www.zabbix.com/life_cycle_and_release_policy page earlier explained major and minor versions, now it is just talking about releases.

Major versions (in Zabbix language) = 7.0, 7.2, 7.4

Minor versions: 7.0.17, 7.2.3, 7.4.1

I think the documentation should explain the major versions better.

Thank you markkul for support on documentation improvement. What about dropping Major/Minor and talking only about releases? I always forget zabbix is different and assume more standard "major.minor, patch" scheme.
