ZBXNEXT-1144 asks for per-host timezone

2015 - still this feature is not available!!

i'm not sure what is meant by "User Media" but i'm thinking this would be best placed in the user's "Profile" options. I'm thinking that this should be the preferred way to set a timezone, as it makes sense for most servers to be on UTC, and with some automated deployments, (like with docker) its can be prohibitive to change server timezone. Its also another config change that has to be documented, and having the user set the timezone, removes the change. Also, a default for user groups would be nice too, or a timezone for group...

Thanks

ZBXNEXT-333 asks for per-host timezone

Comment by Oleksii Zagorskyi [ 2016 Mar 08 ]

Removed "User Media" entries per Rich's request.

ZBXNEXT-3403 takes this a bit further and asks for multiple timezone settings per user.

timezone-related issues :

Comment by Anthony Somerset [ 2017 Jul 19 ]

all data stored in the database should be stored as UTC for consistency then only correct offset's applied for PHP timezone or user/usergroup preference overrides accordingly - big +1 from us - we are at the moment resorting to the vhosts "hack" to make this work but its a slight pain to manage, especially when you throw SSL into the mix

Should this just be a setting that's ultimately handled by the UI translating UTC to some local timezone? It's hard to believe it wasn't designed like that to start with.

Just to add my support to this feature request, we are considering taking our Zabbix installation from operating local to a region, to cover the whole business internationally. With people across 11 timezones looking at the same Zabbix instance, the lack of per-user timezone is a major problem. The workaround that we are likely to have to use is to switch everything to UTC and have everyone mentally translate the times in the frontend every time they do anything. This will effect every single Zabbix user since there are no users that are in permanent UTC and I expect this to be a major factor against adopting Zabbix internationally.

The migration we are considering is away from PRTG, which does have this feature (in line with all enterprise level monitoring tools), so for me this is a key missing feature of Zabbix and should be included in the development of the next version if at all possible.

Major issue indeed.

Yes very much needed still indeed. The same way I'm prompted to set my timezone in Zabbix JIRA when i signed up is exactly whats needed in Zabbix. Yes leave Zabbix itself to use one central time mechanism, but at least give users in different geographical regions the ability to understand graphs a lot easier by Zabbix automatically calculating their user profile time zone and adjusting the time difference from the GMT data (or whatever you use) centrally and have time that displayed in graphs etc.

One of the hardest things I find in trying to promote the use of our Zabbix platform globally by all of our teams is the fact that they have to add or subtract the time difference for their region to whats shown in GMT on the graphs.

Zabbix is awesome software, this isn't a criticism at all, I'll never move from Zabbix but hope to provide value in making it an even better piece of software. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for all your comments. This functionality will be implemented in Zabbix 5.2! It will include ability to set global timezone in Zabbix UI along with possibility to override it for each user individually.
