If a Zabbix process crashes then usually there is a nice backtrace and memory map in the log file which helps to investigate the crash.
Some agent processes are started via zbx_execute_threaded_metric() - if they crash there is no helpful backtrace, just an error "Data gathering process terminated unexpectedly" is reported.
