I am monitoring using both active checks and passive checks depending on situation. As well I am using custom templates (or default MySQL template by example) for monitoring the equipments.

I have a big "duplication" issue as I need to duplicate/copy every template into template active version and template passive because.

Then even uglier, at each update of one single element within the active template (let's say adding one more item or trigger) then same change needs to be exactly reproduced at the passive template.

That's totally ineffective and I was thinking there is a better way to decide whether the Zabbix agent is acting active or passive by having at item level a Zabbix Agent (auto) option. And at the host level and even at host group to have a setting saying the Zabbix agent is acting:

      • passive
      • active
      • per item setting

Of course, should be some default at system level, if at item level is picked Auto option and the host or host group level has no setting then the default Zabbix server setting should apply.

This improvement should avoid the need to duplicate templates based on checks and to avoid the need to sync templates.
