Setting snmp version per item doesn't make sense to me. Do you hosts with multiple SNMP version on the same interface? Furthermore, since snmp version can't be set with a macro like community, you have to keep 3 templates for each snmp device.
The best approach, imho, is to collapse all snmp item types to a generic "SNMP" and set community and version in the "SNMP interfaces" section of the host
